PhD Program

Each year, InLife offers 3-year PhD contracts to fund research projects that adopt an interdisciplinary approach to address fundamental or applied scientific questions at the interface with the life sciences.

Criteria and process of the PhD program

 

Scientific Scope: InLife funds projects that fall within one of the two priority scientific pillars of the Initiative:

  1.  Engineering for life
  2. Theoretical approaches to biological systems

Information on the Doctoral Research Project (PRD):

  • The PRD can be written in English or French / Maximum 3 pages / references included

  • It must include a summary (max 300 words) and detail the context, scientific objective, justification of the scientific approach, and the interdisciplinary nature of the project

  • The role and scientific expertise of each supervisor must be clearly described. For each supervisor, list scientific publications or outputs directly related to the project and published within the last five years

  • The desired candidate profile may be specified

  • The title and summary of the PRD, as well as the names of the thesis supervisors, will be posted online for the upcoming call for applications

 

Selection Criteria:

  1. The primary criterion is interdisciplinarity.

  2. The ambition of the project must be appropriate for PhD-level research.

  3. The writing quality must clearly convey the project's objectives and significance.

  4. The biological question must be clearly stated.

Eligibility:

  • To promote synergy between disciplines, PhD co-supervision is required.

  • The PhD supervisor and co-supervisor must belong to two different doctoral schools (ED) and hold an HDR (Habilitation to Supervise Research).

  • The PhD supervisor must be affiliated with an institution that is part of the ASU (Alliance Sorbonne Université).

  • There are no affiliation restrictions for the co-supervisor.

  • Collaborations with foreign institutions that are part of ASU’s strategic partnerships or the 4EU+ Alliance are encouraged.
